Editing the Volity wiki
Why can't I edit the wiki?
Unfornately, spammers tend to run amok over wikis that are both unlocked and not heavily edited, as is the case with the Volity Wiki. Our problems with spammers got increasingly worse through 2004, and I finally slapped an editing password on it at the end of the year.
It now requires a special password to edit. However, I am very free with this password. And it's not a very good password anyway.
How do I receive editing permission?
The password is: volity
Enter this into the "Administrator Password" form field of the preferences page. (You can also log in (or create a new account) by filling in the username and password fields above it, but you don't have to.) Then hit the "Save" button.
You will now get a "Edit this page" link at the bottom of most pages in the Volity Wiki. You should continue to see this link in all future sessions, thanks to a cookie that the wiki fed you when you entered the password. Should the site accuse you in the future of having no editing access, though, just re-authenticate yourself in the same fashion.
Doesn't putting the password right here in the open defeat the point?
I theorize that spammers won't have the patience to follow these instructions, and will instead just move along to other, more easily abusable Wikis.
